2.2 Students develop analytical and critical thinking in areas such as how Japan’s cultural background influences modern Japanese life, how to compare their own culture with the Japanese culture, or how Japanese culture relates to other world cultures in an age of global inter-relatedness.

Reflective Narrative
Japanese Culture is a very important Major Learning Outcome. I can certainly say that in the time that I have been studying Japanese at CSUMB, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the culture of Japan. I have learned about so many things, especially relating to life in Japan that truly intrigue me. One of those things is the respectful manner of Japanese people and how they treat their peers. Respect is shown through bowing at certain degrees depending on the status of the person you are talking to. This is different from American culture and I think that it shows that Japan has a system in place that everyone can learn from.
