JAPN 301: Advanced Language, Culture and Communication
Course Description:
This course continues to develop advanced level Japanese competency through further acquisition of Japanese cultural knowledge on a variety of fields and disciplines in content-based instruction. Taught in Japanese.
Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): (Prereq: JAPN 201 or equivalent with a C- or better)
Reflective Narrative:
JAPN 301 is a very enjoyable class. It covers topics like anime, manga, and the art of tea in Japan. My favorite module in this course was the art of tea and it was very calming and showed me a different aspect of Japanese culture that I am not entirely familiar with. From working on group projects to meeting in class through zoom, I feel like I was able to get a better understanding of certain things in Japan that I was not sure about. I certainly learned a lot from my classmates who shared presentation on popular anime and manga artists and in discussions we shared how those things influenced modern day Japan. I would recommend this class to anyone who has taken Japanese before and wants to learn more about Japanese culture while also having to perform Japanese speaking and listening skills at a high level to keep up with the pace of the class.
